William Ferguson, the old guy in his late fifties has challenged the popular notion that casinos are the safe place and it is too difficult to cheat such establishments. However, the culprits have to go behind the bars, sooner or later. It has been observed by the judicial authorities that Ferguson has been involved in illegal activities and scams since 1990. Due to his unlawful acts, he was detained in the Clark County Detention Center for a long time.
As regards the modus-operandi, the clever guy; along with his pals used to cheat the dealers, one of them diverted the latter’s attention while the other used to take hold of the chips and flee. Noreen DeMonte, the prosecutor disclosed that Ferguson was habitual of grabbing chips worth hefty amounts from the roulette tables. He has been prosecuted in four such big frauds, the famous being housebreak cases and others related to the $29,000 chips stealing from LVH, Treasure Island, Rio and MGM Grand.
Recently, Ferguson has conned fourteen operators at Las Vegas to the tune of $180,000 through chips, by grabbing the same and flee. It is believed that he has been involved in the theft of approx $150,000 in chips from ten different properties that include Bellagio which has been robbed off $178,900 in chips by Ferguson. DeMonte, the prosecutor informed that out of the total grab of $178,900 in chips by Ferguson, $80,000 has been taken back from his possession.
Ferguson has been offered a surety against the amount of $500,000 by Linda Bell, the honorable District Judge with the condition that he must prove the source of such amount, if he desired to avail of the bail.
As regards the huge-amount gaming chips Bellagio case, the attempt for theft by three men including Michael Belton was outfoxed by the smart and alert workers of the property. A case of theft and plot has been framed against Belton who would be sentenced during the month end. However, others two alleged guys have since run away. Anthony Carleo, equipped with a pistol and a motorbike helmet on his head entered Bellagio in December 2010 and robbed the casino of chips worth $1.5 million. Carleo alias Bellagio Bandit succeeded to flee but was apprehended after sixty days while seeking sale of the stolen chips at a lower rate of 14 $25,000 to a covert police official of Las Vegas. After having been found guilty of the crime, he was imprisoned for a long time.
Hiroyuki Yamaguchi and Edward Land were alleged of their involvement in stealing $33,200 from the Rio in the month of February in 2011. In fact, they assisted a man who made an escape after grabbing the huge amount with a gun at Rio at a pio gow table.
