Las Vegas Sands became aware of the fact that to hide facts especially at a time when a case is submitted in your opposition in the court is quite a grave issue. This fact was confirmed when the state judge of Nevada declared that the company has cheated the courts so as to delay a court case submitted by Steve Jacobs, the ex-CEO of Sands China.
Las Vegas was asked by Elizabeth Gonzalez, the District Court Judge to pay $25,000 as reimbursement charges to Jacobs and also deprived company of its right to point out any objection in a struggle for the vital proof. A court case regarding unfair termination was submitted by Jacobs. The conclusion to let him off his service uprooted from Jacobs unwillingness to continue business with middlemen operators of Macau which was purportedly wished by Adelson. Jacobs also claimed that Adelson wished him to watch around any sort of wrong allegations that could be employed in future to force the senior officers of Macau to pass the rules in the company’s favor. However, Jacobs was let off from his service in July 2010 and ridiculously ushered to the door of the casino by security due to his denial to accomplish this wrongful deed. However, at last the court settled the case in favor of Jacobs.
The main reason for anger and frustration of Judge Gonzalez was the evident endeavors made by Las Vegas Sands to cheat the court. The lawyer of LVS by chance loses his tongue and stated that the credentials relevant to the case were in reality present in the US right from 2010. It was asserted by LVS that these credentials can’t be moved from Macau as per Personal Data Protection Act of the area. Upon disclosure of this upsetting fact, Gonzales was not so excited but was furious.
The Judge in her decision mentioned that the information that was shifted was already replicated and this replicated data was moved from Macau and evaluated by lawyers of LVS in Las Vegas. It is evident from the frequent false testimonials for a number of months by LVS that the company aimed to cheat the court in order to delay the detection course. The reality of shifted data was hidden from the court by the defendants.
This immense blunder on the part of Las Vegas Sands has strengthened the allegation of Jacobs. And now even a more strict punishment is expected for LVS upon completion of inquiries by the Securities and Exchange Commission, the US Department of Justice, and Nevada casino regulators.
