CRA, the Casino Regulatory Authority of Singapore has come down heavily on Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) of Genting as the public at large have submitted various complaints against the latter. There have been reports that staff at RWS is involved in misuse of certain programs leading to embezzlement of funds. As investigated by CRA, hotel accommodation and tickets for concert were facilitated by its staff upon signing up for a fresh tariff or renewal of the old levy under RWS’s marketing plan. It has been charged with non-submission of details of the said program to the authorities. Further, CRA holds RWS responsible for the unlawful actions on the part of its employees. Another report by CRA says that RWS has been found issuing Universal Studios Singapore gracious tickets upon renewal of their yearly casino levies.
Certain staff at RWS awaits strict action by CRA. Sim Bee Ling, the assistant manager is facing falsification charges while senior VP Lim Tze Chean is accused of forgery & submission of wrong information whereas the Senior VP Lee Poh Yee will be tried for having facilitated bogus details to the investigating officials of CRA.
Few weeks ago, a total fine of S$500k was slapped on Marina Bay Sands; the incorporated resort, i.e. IR of Singapore and RWS as they had breached certain social obligations. Now the latter is again on the radar of CRA with a fine of S$600k (US$488k) for the fractional compensation of the yearly casino entry charges to the tune of S$2k; paid by approx 3,400 locals between Feb 1 – May 31, 2011. Strict charges have been framed against certain employees of Singapore’s Resorts World Sentosa by The Commercial Affairs Department for their alleged wrongful actions for the said re-payments. Plans are there in Singapore that thinks to smack the erring IRs with ten percent of their yearly incomes.
