Springfield - Plans for a proposed gaming facility on the main street, at the place of existing Peter Pan bus stand and additional space through probable procurement of the Republican newspaper building’s place are under way. The third indoor meeting in this regard was held on Monday wherein representatives of Penn National Gaming Inc. and top executives & business experts from the aspirant groups exchanged their views with Mayor Domestic J. Sarno and apprised him of their suggestions for developing the casinos in Springfield. The discussions came to an end by the noon. A meeting between MGM group and Penn National would follow as they have joined hands, with the entry of one group and departure of another.
The Florida-based Hard Rock International had a meeting with the mayor as it is also keenly interested to go ahead with an uncertain city center place. However, no comments were divulged by them. The Ameristar representatives with their intentions for a property at previous Westinghouse in east Springfield also discussed with Sarno this morning.
The government relations & public affairs senior vice president, Eric Schippers of Penn National apprised that they would gain complete knowledge about the selection procedure of the city before finalizing the effective particulars for their application for a property at the North End. The Pennsylvania-based company’s top executive added that location at the said place means something that could play a major role for positive impacts on the city which would be benefited to great extent. Before any building is put up, discussions with the local people and key members of the society would go a long way for the benefit of all concerned. He continued by saying that Penn National has a strong fiscal base for the proposed casino. Peter Picknelly, an associate in the proposed plan also participated in today’s discussions without making any comment and the fact was confirmed by Schippers.
