An amount of $706,436.69 as against the total demand of $1.3 million by twenty-eight Northampton County municipalities was disbursed to them on Monday through a grant by the Gaming Revenue and Economic Redevelopment Authority out of its revenues collected from Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem. Sixteen county municipalities received $27,500 each whereas they had asked for the highest amount of $50,000. John J. Finnigan Jr, the chairman was surprised to note that ten municipalities didn’t approach the authority for any aid.
The subcommittee’s member Joseph Kelly said that processing of the applications was a cumbersome act, hence all of the municipalities were given an amount of 55% of the total requested by them. It would facilitate them to meet their emergent requirements.
The economic development administrator of Northampton County, Alicia Karner informed that the amount of the grants was to be utilized within one year, but an extension could also be considered. Many municipalities would be asking for two years’ time for procurement of the required items for them, she said.
An amount of $36,319 to procure an inspection camera at Fisk Field was requested by Wilson Borough whereas Lower Saucon Township came up with its request for $49,031.50 to equip itself with security system for Steel City Park and buy a new police vehicle.
Grant-in-aid was sought by Wind Gap to meet the salaries, services & assistance for the Slate Belt Council of Governments. Similarly Nazareth approached the authority for supporting a street between G.W. Stoudt Boulevard and West Prospect Street. A request was received from Northampton County to facilitate it with a public works venture and also the animal over population study program.
