Ontario is all set to introduce online gambling by the next year. Canada and Ontario are on the way to follow the Americans in terms of internet betting unlike the British pattern of synchronized and approved online wagering. A period of just six years since 2006 has seen a great change in these two provinces when Gerry Phillips, the Minister for Government Services had announced that Internet Gaming was not on their priority and they did not underrate the related complications. A situation has come that now they are planning to bring online gambling in 2013.
In fact the financial conditions of any region play a major role on the gambling activities and related laws. It has been observed that online gambling is considered as an effective tool of revenue generation and hence it is becoming most popular with the authorities and politicians in many countries. It is quite clear that they adopt the methods that are suitable for them to extract more money for the state exchequer.
As regards the 2006 ban on advertisements related with online gambling, the Ontario Government seems to have followed the USA that disqualified the offshore online gambling in the state. Many of the provinces in Canada now depend much upon online gambling activities in terms of revenues. There was an acute shortage of funds with Ontario Lottery and Gaming in 2006 when extension of gambling was not permitted. A net decrease of 75.6% in the revenues income was recorded by OLG during the five years previous to 2006 when the Responsible Gambling Council justified the ban on internet betting ads with the plea that internet gaming had given a rise to problem gambling.
