P&O Cruise violated off-shore gambling laws

Anthony Ball, the Clubs NSW chief executive said that the a P & O cruise that left Sydney on Friday night facilitated pontoon, blackjack, roulette, forty poker machines and three-card poker the next morning when it docked in Jervis Bay. The cruise has violated the laws by allowing gaming off the NSW coast over the weekend wherein passengers were facilitated to obtain up to $ 5000 in gambling money through their credit cards that is not available in NSW. The cruise was criticized for disobeying the NSW and ACT laws that do not permit casinos off the coast. Gambling activities are permitted on the ships when they are at least twelve nautical miles offshore or when they sail on international routes. However, P&O denied the charge by saying that the cruise was at a distance of twelve nautical miles from Sydney; hence there was no violation of the rules. But the clubs movement made upheaval and claimed that it was clear breach of the law as the decision of P&O for allowing a floating casino on the south coast without proper sanction is too dangerous. Anthony Ball said that he was of the view that P&O has been breaking the responsible gambling laws since long by taking locals a few miles offshore for gambling activities without paying the due taxes. It is a clear disregard for the rules and regulations of the state, he said. A spokesman for P&O Cruises said that they understand the law in its true sense and are entitled to facilitate gambling activities when they were at a distance of twelve nautical miles out of Sydney port. He added that even while docked at Jervis Bay, they were stationed more than twelve nautical miles from the port. He continued that P&O Cruises always adhere to the regulatory frameworks and guidelines in terms of on-board gambling activities.
