Casino laws should be made lenient - MPs

According to the MPs and Commons Culture & Sports Select Committee, the stringent laws that prohibit the extension of casinos and machines allowing higher amounts of bets should be made lenient. The power must be given to local councils to authorize betting shops to run more than four such gambling machines that could accept bets up to £100 and give cash rewards worth £500. The Gambling Commission that controls the gambling industry should claim a lower amount of fees from the casino operators and around 20 machines must be permitted in a casino. The anti-gambling activists would be anguished by these proposals of the MPs as they believe that high streets persuade the gambling addicts too much.
The commission is technical and costly beyond limits and the power to make a decision regarding location of casinos in UK should rest with the councils instead of Whitehall, as stated by MPs. According to Tory chairman of the committee, John Whittingdale; there has been a large scale acceptance of the gambling as an amusement activity in UK in present day arena. And the gambling laws that allowed it unwillingly from the last 50 years now seem to be old-fashioned. On enquiring about any probable antagonism to the notion of leniency in casino limitations, he stated that during 2005 the opponents of law were not willing to witness the opening of super-casinos. But now, in the gambling industry, there is lack of interest for large-scale gambling locations; however the central government should not have a saying regarding location of smaller casinos.
According to one reliable source of the MPs, the time has come that the 2005 legislation must be altered, thus loosening up the rules related to gambling world. In 2005, the law was made for beginning of super casinos to the tune of Las Vegas style all through the nation, with machines that offered indefinite amount of winnings. These proposals were put forward by Tessa Jowell, the culture secretary at that time. But general public opposed these proposals angrily; thereby the idea of super casinos was dropped and Gambling Commission was set up to administer the industry.
