Assembly Ruben Ramos, D-Hudson, chairman of the Regulatory Oversight and Gaming Committee informed that the issue of gaming activities in Meadowlands would be considered during an assembly meeting. The legislators would express their views regarding increase in state revenues and low performance of the casinos in the Atlantic City. The meeting will be held on Thursday in Hamiltonian Room at Meadowlands Racetrack, East Rutherford. Bob Marks, spokesman for racehorse breeder Peretti Farms in Upper Freehold said that Racetrack casino gaming would prove a boon for the horse racing industry and would add to the state revenues.
In view of the low trend of gambling revenues of New Jersey due to competition from the adjoining states, the Meadowlands and Monmouth Park tracks have been leased to the private managers and they are owned by the state too.
Though the amendment for Casino gambling outside Atlantic City has not been favored by Senate President Stephen Sweeney and Gov. Chris Christie, yet the Assembly Democrats are adamant to get it go through after being apprised of the low trend of revenues from Atlantic City’s twelve casinos that revealed decrease of 0.6% in June last year. The new Revel mega casino that stands eighth in terms of casino revenues has yet to prove the relevant results.
