As informed by the representatives of Poarch Band of Creek Indians, a new casino namely Wind Creek Wetumpka, to be put up in Wetumpka is under construction. The facility would cost approx $246 million and is expected to be completed by May, 2013, said the officials. It would comprise of modern restaurants, 285 rooms and a gaming facility. The new casino would give employment to about 600 permanent employees and also approx 1,200 construction jobs for the people.
Buford Rolin, the Poarch Tribal Chairman said that tribal members and the neighborhood residents in Wetumpka would be the main beneficiaries in terms of job opportunities. He expected that business activities in the Wetumpka community would grow considerably with opening of the new casino.
The tribe has already made a considerable investment on its Wind Creek Casino & Hotel in Atmore and the same pattern would be followed at the proposed site too. The tribe owns one more Alabama gambling venue too in its Creek Casino Montgomery. Plans for partnership with Innisfree Hotels for building Hyatt Place Hotel near Pensacola Airport worth $24 million had also been announced by the tribe in addition to the Gretna, Fla horse-racing track. The tribe has given employment to over 2,100 persons in approx ten business houses or such set-ups and plans to create more job opportunities by the year end.
