Road cleared for tribal casino in Rohnert

Plans for a Las-Vegas style casino in Sonoma County, just outside Rohnert Park have since been approved by the federal government on Friday wherein the state and tribe have come to an agreement. The last government hurdle has since been cleared. The tribe that already has the permission to run a Class II casino with some card games and bingo machines has now been allowed to operate the casino banking card games and slot machines. In fact, the recruitment drives and job fairs for the 3,000-slot facility had already been going on by the tribe in anticipation of the authorities official approval. Issues relating to minimization of any adverse impacts in the North Bay would be on the agenda of Sonoma County officials and the tribe during the coming period of ninety days. They would discuss about the probable effects on the private wells and the groundwater. Mike McGuire, County Supervisor said on Friday that they must consider the possible adverse effects and should remain focused on such issues. An area of approx 534,000 square feet would be covered when a hotel with two hundred rooms is built afterwards. McGuire added that so far discussions have been held on mutual basis. Though Greg Sarris, the Graton Rancheria Chairman did not comment but in June he had accused the supervisors with the charge of spreading misleading information about the project.
