Thursday brought great news for the gamblers in Delaware as a bill came into being that would enable them to enjoy roulette and slots on their own computers by 2013. Such facility could be available on smart phones too. As reported by the News Journal of Wilmington, Del., the Delaware Gaming Competitiveness Act has since been signed by the Democratic Gov. Jack Markell. Thus Delaware has become the first state to facilitate full-service online casino gambling. Though strong opposition was there against the bill, yet the supporters made it a success with their contention that Delaware needed casino gambling to face the challenges of the neighboring Maryland and Pennsylvania. They opined that the law would allow the people of Delaware to participate. As per the federal law, online gambling is permitted for people residing within the state’s limits. Residents of Delaware would be able to enjoy gambling through the websites of the state’s casinos and betting would be monitored and controlled by the State Lottery Office.
Introduction of online gambling would not only facilitate the gamblers but would also be helpful for the job-seekers to secure more jobs. The governor, Markell expressed happiness that thousands of jobs would be available for the unemployed. The News Journal says that approx $250 million are made available as annual revenues through the Delaware casinos that presently give jobs to approx 2,500 persons. The revenues may increase the revenues by approx $7.75 by the next year, says the Department of Finance.
Like others, Delaware also intends to introduce lottery tickets through the state’s website. Senate President Pro Tem Anthony DeLuca, the strong supporter of the bill said that the jobs and revenue for the state would get a great boost through such promotions.
