TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) – Casinos in Indiana, Michigan and Pennsylvania would suffer badly because of new casinos in Ohio, as the gamblers now will not need to visit these states any more. In fact, the revenues collected from the casinos in the states were a boon for the roads, bridges, and college & school scholarships. Revenues in Indiana have dropped considerably because of low-traffic as Ohio is attracting its people for playing at the local casinos rather than visit Indiana. A new casino to be established just at a half-hour distance from Indiana’s casino in Lawrenceburg is another threat to the casino earnings and state’s revenues. The new casino, opened just two weeks back in Cleveland would also reduce the number of gamblers to the casinos in the states. As per an estimate, it would suffer a net loss of approx $100 million because of tax revenues when Ohio’s all four casino start operating, commented Luke Kenley, a state senator. Ohio's first casino opened in Cleveland two weeks ago would reduce the number of gamblers in western New York and Pennsylvania. Same way, the casino in Toledo would also make the things worse for Detroit's casinos that would lose greatly. An industry analyst in Michigan, Mr. Jake Miklojcik said that it is quite natural that people in Ohio would prefer to visit the casinos near their own home place rather than drive down to Detroit.
Scott Baillie, a blackjack and poker player is much happy about Ohio that would now be in a better position in terms of casino revenues whereas the Indian States would lose much. Toledo’s casino would be much helpful for the job seekers. It would be able to feed as many as 1,300 people through suitable employment.
However, the operators in Indiana States would also endeavor hard to retain their customers. They would go in for additional entertainment and more slot machines. They would try to win the confidence of the customers by making latest improvements in all respects. The deputy director of West Virginia Lottery, Mr. Jim Toney, being optimistic about the casinos in the state commented that the operators would see the customers back by making necessary changes. People normally return to their old places after visiting the new ones. Moreover, the lawmakers in the states have liberalized the smoking rules for the casinos to encourage the gamblers.
