Casino revenues go down in April at Mississippi

Casino revenue fell short to $187 million by 1.2 percent in April, as compared to $189.3 million in April 2011. While the Mississippi coast casinos recorded an upward revenue trend, but it dropped in case of the state’s gambling halls. The Gulf Coast casino market saw an increase of 6.8 casino revenues that rose to $93.4 million from $87.4 million, continuously for the third month. However, it went down to $93.7 million from $101.9 million in the case of 17 casinos along the Mississippi River. The casinos had improved during the first quarter of the year but the overall downward trend in April had pushed them back. However, Mr. Webster Franklin, president and CEO of the Tunica Convention & Visitors Bureau was optimistic, despite the downward trend in the revenues. He said the traffic at the Tunica County’s nine casino seems to be increasing. He said that more visitors are now observed at the casinos. Mississippi did better than Louisiana in terms of casino revenues that recorded a downfall of 5 percent in April as compared to same month during the last year.
