AKRON, Ohio (AP) - The executive director of the National Council on Problem Gambling in Washington, D.C., Keith Whyte emphasized the need for prevention and treatment for the help of the problem gamblers. She said that sincere and effective steps are required to address their problems rather than bring an enforcement solution.
The voluntary exclusion program is a praiseworthy step as commented upon by Mr. Justin Gale, a Mayfield Heights resident who had said good-bye to gambling in the lat year. Anyone could request for exclusion from gambling for one, five years or for life even. As per the new state program anybody on the exclusion list, found to be gambling would be charged with trespassing and forced to forgo his winnings. To become eligible for registration, one must apply personally and the commission would share the applicant’s photographs & physical traits with the casinos and nobody is permitted to sign up for someone else.
Mr. Judy Patterson, the senior vice president and executive director of the American Gaming Association expressed that the self-exclusion programs are in the interest of the problem gamblers. In fact, they are aimed to persuade such persons to own the responsibility for the self-created problems. He added that the programs are meant to discourage gambling, particularly the problem gambling.
