West Memphis, AR – The two groups are all set to establish casinos in Arkansas. Michael Wasserman, the Texas businessman endeavors to put one casinos in each of the following counties, i.e. Garland, Sebastian, Miller, Crittenden, Boone, Jefferson and Pulaski. Likewise Nancy Todd, the professional poker player and political advisor also plans to bring into existence one casinos at each of the following places – Crittenden, Miller, Franklin and Pulaski.
Both these groups are required to seek the favor of approx 80,000 people through their signatures by July, 6 for the amendments during the ballot in November. Wasserman said that the group securing the higher votes would be declared successful to run the casinos. He added that the situation this year differed from his earlier attempt as now more people were in favor of the casinos and they had persuaded him to try once again. Nancy Todd commented that additional revenue and jobs facilitated through the casinos would be in the interest of Arkansas.
However, the group called “Stop Casinos Now” is against the proposals. It is being funded by Delaware North, the group that owns Southland Park Gaming and Racing in West Memphis. It’s General Manager and President, Mr. Troy Keeping stated that unregulated monopoly would arise through the proposals. However, Wasserman commented that he would abide by the federal gaming laws that were effective enough. Todd said that initiatives were described in such a way that did not encourage the general assembly to go against the people’s opinion.
