RALEIGH – As per the gambling agreement reached between the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and Govt. Bev Perdue, a bill recognizing the changes made in November has been cleared. The North Carolina officials have given a considerable thought to allow live dealer card games at the state’s casino rather than to the existing video machines. It has been decided to permit the live dealer gambling in respect of the card games, e.g. poker & blackjack at the tribe’s casino.
A considerable part of the new games’ revenue would be transferred to the state as per the law.
Sen. Tom Apodaca, R-Henderson said that now the Cherokee Indians would be able to use live dealers instead of the machines. The 30-year pact would enhance the state’s revenue to great extent and prove a boon for the job seekers in the region.
While some persons opposed the move saying that it would add to gambling problems and social evils, Mr. Apodaca favored it by saying that Human beings should be free to have their own choices in life. The director of the Christian Action League, the Rev. Mark Creech, opposed it. He decried the Government for making profit from gambling and utilize it for public causes like education etc. Lottery was also used in the same way, he said.
