SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – would explore the possibility of a suitable casino partner that is supportive for development of the casino and necessary negotiations for the same.
As stated by Mayor, Sarno, the city intends to have a casino and the City Assessor Richard Allen expressed that it would generate approx $20 million as revenue. In fact, no body can be certain about the fate of western Mass. Casino as the casino licenses are given by following the competitive bidding procedure. However, Springfield is trying their best. As per the casino rules, the city and the developer have to go in for an understanding in terms of community impact fee if Springfield is successful. The license would depend upon the community voting.
The successful bidder would require a minimum investment of $500-million dollars that would be the biggest construction project in Springfield. Prominent developers Penn National Gaming and Ameristar have expressed their keen desire for Springfield, the latter even having purchased the erstwhile Westinghouse Property.
