WASHINGTON, D.C. – Considering all types of online gambling, specifically Poker to be unlawful previously, the U.S. Department of Justice has now modified its point and publicized that the central Wire Act of 1961 pertains to only gambling related to sports. In an answer to the clarification demanded in 2009 regarding relevance of Wire Act to the lottery segment of New York and office of the Illinois Governor, the Assistant Attorney General Virgina Seitz replied on 20th Sep. that these two do not engage sports gambling and are merely lotteries. Therefore, Wire Act is not applicable to Lotteries and the Internet Poker.
Executive Director of the Pokers Players Alliance, John Pappas stated that this explanation of the obsolete and bewildering law was obligatory because an argument over its relevance was going on between the courts and the lawyers for so many years. As opined by the American Gaming Association, the action of the Department of Justice to control the multiplicity of local & distant, illegal & unauthorized existing online gambling sites lacking any protective measures for scams, money filtering and immature gambling, is very important.
